Job Title:  Registered Dietitian

Description:  Responsible for the nutritional care of all patients and residents, consult in food service, and provide education to staff, patients and residents. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. NUTRITIONAL CARE: Successful performance in management of nutritional care of assigned patient/residents. STANDARDS: a. Manages and/or oversees the nutritional care of all patients/residents provide dietetic consultation to in and out patients, and to clinic referrals. b. Participates in assessment, dietetic evaluation, and care planning for patients / residents assures age specific and therapeutic needs are met. c. Assures special dietary needs and preferences are obtained for each patient / resident menus for regular and modified diets are nutritionally balanced and planned in advance. d. Assures timely, quality documentation is in the medical record. e. Implements, monitors, and maintains quality assurance and quality improvement program related to nutritional care and patient meal service. f. Develop written nutritional policies, procedures, and protocols to facilitate consistent communication and work performance. g. Participates in assignments, projects, and goals to meet patient and facility needs in food service management consults to Dietary Food Service Supervisor. 2. EDUCATION: Organizes on-going programs designed to meet high levels of performance. STANDARDS: a. Assures quality care planning process and documentation. b. Provides consultation to outside facilities participates in community education and nutritional promotions as able. c. Assures ongoing education at IDM's for staff regarding diets and menus, food safety and sanitation, and additional topics as needed. d. Assures standards set by the Federal, State, and Local agencies. e. Assures operation of department within a set budget. 3. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: STANDARDS: a. Improves current level of knowledge and skills by participation in workshops and continuing education related to assigned responsibilities. b. Attends inservices/meetings mandated by St. Luke s Medical Center. c. Completes annual facility education. 4. PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE, LEADERSHIP ROLE AND TEAM MEMER ABILITIES. Maintains a positive professional role throughout the facility and community. STANDARDS: a. Supports and promotes facility standards of behavior. b. Exhibits a positive, professional approach when dealing with the public, and demonstrates solution-oriented involvement with problems of facility, staff, and patients. c. Attendance and involvement in assigned meetings, QI, and voluntary groups/committees. d. Good communication with subordinates and peers. e. Shows initiative and follow through in work projects. f. Values and pursues professional education and self-improvement. g. Exhibits timeliness in reporting, i.e. QI reporting, etc. 5. Safeguarding the privacy and security of protected health information (PHI) in any form including electronic, written or oral. STANDARDS a. Responsible for safeguarding any PHI or EPHI seen, used or disclosed during this positions normal job functions as stated in the above job responsibilities abased on the HIPAA privacy and security policies and procedures. b. Responsible to conduct any oral discussions of PHI with other staff or with patients and family members in a manner that limits the possibility of inadvertent disclosures. c. Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality with any unintentional access to PHI whether written, electronic or oral. d. Responsible for reporting suspected violations of the safeguarding of PHI or EPHI by any St. Luke s Medical Center employee or business associate. e. Responsible to ensure the use or disclosure of PHI or EPHI that is not routinely available to this position must be coordinated with the HIPAA Privacy Officer, Security Officer or designee. 6. Accountability For Safety STANDARDS: a. Familiarizes self with and adheres to all facility and department safety policies and procedures. b. Completes all required annual safety training. c. Supports and implements safety into all job responsibilities regarding self, other employees, residents/patients and visitors. d. Reports safety violations (or unsafe observances) to supervisor and/or department head immediately. e. Promotes a culture of safety to improve employee safety. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION Bachelor s degree in Nutrition and completion of one of the following: ADA approved under graduate program in Dietetics. ADA Dietetic internship, Master degree in Dietitian or registration eligible. Must maintain a valid North Dakota driver s license and maintain insurability with St. Luke s Medical Center s insurance carrier. Working Conditions: Will work on all patient/resident floors, dietitian's office and occasionally the kitchen. Will work with professional staff, health care team, dietary staff, patients/residents and families. May come in contact with hazards associated with patient contact. (ie. infectious diseases). The employee is occasionally required to walk sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 4. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. 5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. 6. Requires corrected vision and normal hearing range. Requires walking and sitting for extensive periods of time and ability/license to drive. Requires working under stressful conditions with deadlines and some irregular hours.
