Job Title:  Geological Engineering, Geology Coop – 3 month(s) or 8 month(s)

Description:  This program is designed for students pursuing a four-year degree, have completed a portion of their curriculum and will be completing their program after the coop experience. It is not designed for graduates. Geological Engineering, Geology Coop 3 month(s) or 8 month(s) Duties at the surface coal mine will be wide and varied, based on the needs of the operation. These duties may include all or some of the following: ? Geologic Drilling Working with drilling and geophysical contractors and describing and collecting coal core samples. Will direct drilling locations based on geology and recent drilling results. ? Geologic Modeling Assist in entering new data and interpretations into the computer system and building new geologic computer models. ? Permitting Assist in the preparation of the mining permits. ? Surveying Assist the survey crew with field and office computations. ? Sampling Working on the groundwater and soil sampling programs. ? Computer Work with various forms of mine data to produce reports or studies. Falkirk looks at this position as an opportunity to expose a Geology/Engineering student to a working operation and show the individual how an Engineering group functions in a working operation. At the same time Falkirk will utilize the individual s time to accomplish tasks that will benefit the operation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful applicant should have a geologic background (i.e., exposure to sedimentary petrology and stratigraphy). Skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access) and AutoCAD are a plus, have a valid driver s license, and be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions. Current pay rate is at $19.10 $21.49 per hour. Safety toed shoes are required and are the responsibility of the applicant. Will require knowledge of plant/wildlife identification and the use of taxonomic keys. The individual will perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and State and Federal environmental regulations.
