Description:  POSITION SUMMARY The diagnostic medical sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease and new procedures as they evolve. The job standards and skills included within this document will also function as job duties. They will be performed and documented according to established policies, and procedures, and general guidelines within the Radiology Department and Trinity Health. Standards Measured by: Direct or indirect observations, documentation, and procedure review. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS 1.Licenses and Certifications Required ARRT, RDMS or ARDMS registered or registry pending NDMIRTBE licensure 2.Educational Requirements RDMS, RDCS, RVT or ARRT Registered Technologist 3.Experience Requirements Working knowledge of ultrasound procedures and general x-ray exams 4.Special Skills or Training Requirements Current compliance and continuing medical education (CME) requirements Utilizes hospital information system and radiology information system as required for charges and proper patient status Performs Ultrasound studies by independently scanning patient part as ordered Provides Radiologist with Technologist interpretation. Verbal ability. Ability to manage multiple priorities Ability to adapt and learn new protocols on new equipment as purchased Other skills as cross-training as needed to be defined by Department Supervisor Good organizational & interpersonal skills Understanding of all imaging modalities Ability to read and interpret documents Able to use calculator, keyboard and word processing Performs general x-rays as needed
