Job Title: Animal Care Intern
Description: Animal Care Interns (5 positions) The Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot, ND is now accepting applications for Animal Care Internships. The Zoo is seeking dependable, hard working college students interested in the field of animal care. Interns will gain valuable experience with exotic animals by training with professional zookeepers. The weekly time commitment of each intern may range from 8 - 40 hours, scheduled any of the seven days a week, varied scheduled times ranging 7:00am - 9:00pm in an 8 hour shift. Requirements: o College student or recent graduate in biology, zoology, or related field o Must have completed a minimum of 4 semesters at the start of the internship o Student in good standing, GPA 2.5 or higher o Capable of lifting 50lbs o Tolerance of strong odors, dust, hay, animal fur/hair/dander and weather conditions o Up-to-date vaccinations, recent physical and negative TB test (dated within 2 weeks of start date). RPZ can provide a TB test for successful applicants. o Available to work weekends and holidays o Available to work 32-40 hours per week a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks o Follow all Roosevelt Park Zoo Protocol *Acceptance into the program is contingent on passing a background check **Animal experience is preferable, but not required Animal Care Internships Areas covered Fall & winter internships rotate all areas* 1. Carnivore/Primates 2. Hoofstock 3. Avian 4. North Trail 5. Red Panda/Outreach/Relief Interns work alongside professional keepers learning their daily routines and husbandry practices. Tasks may include, but are not limited to diet preparation, feeding, cleaning, enrichment, training, exhibit maintenance, and public speaking. Each intern will be required to complete a final project during their internship. Daily duties include some strenuous activity, so candidates must be in good physical condition, able to lift up to 50lbs, and able to apply safe working practices. Please note: o Internships are unpaid, and there is no reimbursement for transportation or housing o Internships require a minimum commitment of 12 weeks or more o Proof of a negative TB test within 2 weeks of starting and tetanus vaccination within 10 years is required preventative rabies vaccine highly recommended but not required o All areas will require grounds and maintenance work o A valid driver s license is required All applicants will be notified upon receipt of all materials.
