POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Sanford Health Internship Program aims to provide our interns with challenging, real-world projects specific to their career path. A Sports Science Research Intern will contribute to Sanford operations and processes while obtaining first-hand experience that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The mission of the Sanford Sports Science Institute (SSSI) is leading scientific advancements in athletic health, performance and research . This mission is fulfilled by conducting discovery- and innovation-based research aimed at identifying and reducing athletic injury risk, improving return-to-play readiness and enhancing athletic performance. SSSI investigators apply knowledge of exercise physiology, biomechanics and sports medicine to clinical, laboratory and field-based research in a comprehensive effort to study real world problems and develop meaningful solutions. Interns will be responsible for assisting SSSI staff members at all stages of the research process including study development, data collection, and interpretation of results, as well as with clinical orthopedics and sports medicine evaluations. Interns will gain valuable experience by attending seminars given by Sanford principal investigators on the latest topics in their particular field. In addition, participants will learn about ethics in scientific research, regulatory aspects of research, and grant and manuscript preparation. Interns will be encouraged to present their findings at national meetings, provided funding is available, and co-author peer-reviewed publications resulting from SSSI research. Students with or presently obtaining an undergraduate or advanced degree in kinesiology, exercise science/physiology, biomechanics, engineering, physical therapy (DPT), and medicine (MD/DO/PA) with a strong interest in research are encourage to apply. DEPARTMENT DETAILS This is a 12 week internship. QUALIFICATIONS Current enrollment or recent graduate of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of healthcare industry preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
